Sainopouleio Theatre is on Magoula-Trypi road. It is the centre of cultural events in Lakonia, hosting the best concerts and plays performed in Greece. The theatre is surrounded by Sainopouleio Park with trees, a playground as well as the alley of the poets, where one can see the torsos of N. Vrettakos, G. Ritsos and others.
Two kilometres southeast of Mystras is Parori. In the central meeting place of the village huge platanus trees cast their shadow. All around, small waterfalls and springs cool the visitors whereas the taverns offer gourmet delicacies.
Above Parori there is a small gorge with lush vegetation. After a 15min trekking trip visitors reach the cave temple of Panagia (Virgin Mary) Langadiotissa with an impressive view, especially in spring time. From Parori, a stone path leads to Panagia Zagouna, built in a cave cavity. From the same village, an asphalt road leads to the settlement of Agios Ioannis.
Just before arriving to this village, in a cool and serene environment, one comes across Kefalari: St John¢s chapel is there and below, a stream flows with huge platanus trees, running water and a number of taverns.
After Agios Ioannis, visitors reach the greenAnavryti at an altitude of 850m, wherefrom the view to Mt Taygetus is fantastic. This village, at its zenith, was the most important small-industry centre of Lakonia. ÅThe neoclassical school building stands out (1900) where today one can visit the Botanical and Geological Museum of Taygetus. The settlement serves as the base for trekking activities in Mt Taygetus. From here there are paths to the lodge (E4), Mystras, Agios Ioannis and Taygeti.
In the wider area there are other two monasteries, the monastery of Zoodohos Pigi, nearby Taygeti, and the monastery of Faneromeni.
